LWHS Band + Jazz Boosters: What to Know
Come Be Part of the Band + Jazz Community!
The LWHS Band + Jazz Boosters is our new parent and community organization supporting the students and programs we love. We’re parents, guardians, alumni families and community members providing the support behind the sound — and the field.
With about 120 students across Band + Jazz, there’s a lot happening behind the scenes. Boosters help with uniforms, meals, Band Camp, games, parades, trips, competitions, fundraising, first aid, communication and the many extras that help our students have great experiences.
Wait — Isn't That What the PTSA Does?
We're partners, but we have different roles.
The Band + Jazz Booster Club is focused specifically on Band + Jazz.
Our nonprofit exists to bring together the families, alumni and community supporters who want to provide the extra financial, volunteer and logistical support these music programs need.
Both organizations can raise funds, recruit volunteers and support students. In fact, Washington state recognizes PTAs/PTSAs and booster clubs as separate types of school-associated nonprofit organizations.
The simplest way to think about it:
PTSA → supports the broader LWHS community
Band + Jazz Boosters → supports Band + Jazz
And we're very grateful to have both.
Why a Band + Jazz Booster Club?
Booster clubs aren’t just for sports. In Washington, the WIAA includes music among its interscholastic activities, and its guidance specifically recognizes booster clubs supporting sports, music and the arts.
At LWHS, we’re one of 19 individual booster clubs under the larger Lake Washington High School Booster Club — alongside organizations supporting football, basketball, theatre, dance and other student activities. The umbrella Booster Club provides the nonprofit structure that helps these program-focused groups support LWHS students.

We Need Parents — Even If You Don't Know What You Want to Do Yet
We're a new Booster Club, and we're building our parent community and volunteer team right now.
The good news? There are no Booster dues, no special sign-up and no experience required.
You can help at an occasional event, take on a regular role, come to a meeting, or simply raise your hand and say:
“I'm not sure what I can do yet, but I'm willing to help.”
A lot of us are former band kids. We have a lot of fun -- and we'll help you find a place.
Why Get Involved?
Being a Band Booster is a great way to meet other Band + Jazz families, get to know your student's community, support some incredible student musicians and help create experiences our students will remember.
It's also a chance to see a pretty cool side of your child's high school life that you might otherwise miss.
Whether you're a “put me to work” parent, a behind-the-scenes helper or someone who just wants to start by showing up, there's a place for you here.
Come be part of the Band community. We're building something special — and we'd love to build it with you.
