Why all the after-school rehearsals?

If marching band is new to your family, this is one of the things that can be surprising: every student has their own specific spot on the field, called a “dot.”

Those formations you see at halftime are carefully mapped out. Each student learns where their dot is for each part of the show — and how to move from one dot to the next while playing music.

That’s why the full-band rehearsals matter. Students can learn music and practice skills during class, but the whole band needs to be together to put the field show together. We are communicating the rehearsal schedule and the possibilities for full-band rehearsals to you early so that you may help your student plan appointments on other dates.

When someone is missing, it can affect:

• The spacing and formations
• The music and timing
• The students marching around them
• What the whole band can practice that day

Have a conflict? Just communicate early.

High school students are busy — sports, clubs, appointments and family commitments all happen. If you know your student will miss a rehearsal or performance, let Mr. Kruse know as early as you can. It helps him plan around the missing “dot” and make the most of rehearsal time for everyone.
