Know Where to Check
Marching season has a lot of moving parts — rehearsals, football games, performances and occasional schedule changes. Weather also impacts rehearsals and games. Use these to keep up on the schedule and updates:
- ParentSquare / StudentSquare — Director and school communications. Sent via email & app. Check your notification settings.
- Canvas -- Get parent access to your student's Canvas classroom site
- Band + Jazz Calendar — Rehearsals, performances and Band + Jazz events.
- BoosterHub — Band + Jazz updates and reminders in the app. You can chat and ask questions!
After-School Rehearsals
Encouraged, because they are important. Your student needs to let Mr. Kruse know in advance whether they will not be at an after-school rehearsal.
These may be set on Wednesdays, Thursdays, or Fridays in September and October, depending on weather, the game schedule, and field availability.
Why Full Band Rehearsals Matter
The Marching Kangs use a marching method called “dots,” which is also used by many college and DCI marching programs.
- Every student has a specific position (“dot”) on the field that helps create the formations you see during the show.
- Students learn their music and individual positions during their separate band classes.
- After-school rehearsals are the only time the full marching band is on the field together to put those pieces together — formations, spacing, movement, music and timing.
That’s why having everyone at full-band rehearsals makes such a difference!
Schedules DO Change -- Sometimes Last Minute
There can be day-of updates or even changes during a rehearsal or game, depending on weather and other conditions. Here's what's good to know:
- Communication from Mr. Kruse is the most authoritative.
- Mr. Kruse will send rehearsal reminders, performance information, and more through ParentSquare and/or Final Forms.
- The live calendar will follow those updates.
- BoosterHub is a source for announcements
- Check your junk folders and notification settings.
- Remind your student to check their StudentSquare and school email.
